iPhone

A place 2 discuss everything iPhone

The iPhone is going to be a cool device. But it could be a really cool device. There were some things I thought would be standard features on the device but didn't see it in demos or technical specs.

  • Voice activated dialing. This could be an easy add. Hold the home button for a few seconds and automatically go into voice dialing.
  • External storage slot. MiniSD preferred. With just 4 and 8 gigs, it's going to fill-up quick.
  • Video capture. Still not sure if you can do this with the camera.

Then there are the things I wish for.

  • The ability to stream content directly from your iTunes Library without having to sync if your in WiFi shot of your PC. Syncing is nice if your wanting to take some content with you. iTunes already let's you turn sharing on. I access my shared library on my desktop from my notebook.
  • Maybe their waiting until 802.11n is supported on the phone.
  • At least give us WiFi syncing.
  • Beaming from iPhone to iPhone. Things like contact, calendar, pictures, etc. Also do music sharing better than Zune.
  • A browser that will actually let you play audio and video from a website.

What do you think is missing from the iPhone?

As far as i know there will be no softwares in the iphone made outside of apple (again, as far as i know). Even games, that are know being made by everybody for the ipods, are not yet "cleared" by apple execs.

The problem with skype in the iphone may be the cingular deal. They don't want to support a phone that won't give them profits. It's still unknown about how much cingular will charge for the iphone user, but I bet that the Iphone signature will have much more "data traffic", along with voice, than all the rest of the cell phones on the market all together. So I don't really know their plan.

-But I'd like to see wi-fi synch as well
-memory slots too, tough I think the 2 gen will have about 16G or more, and that make the cut for me. (I've read at maclife that apple execs said the OS alone will take about 200Mb of that memory)
- A big one to the wish list. Buying music from the ITS. It's not possible, and they are really missing out on the impulsive buyers.

Oh, and I don't want to look like a call-center guy on the process; I'd rather be seen with a phone.

Skype!

I mean, it doesn't have to be skype actually, as apple has iChat standard on iMacs and Macbooks. But when we send emails to the girl next door, or to Borat in Kazakhstan, when they are one-line long or with huge attachments, the costs is the same: zero.

So why is the cost of calling different from that? I want to call everyone everywhere for as long as I may want, for free. To me, that's a no brainer.
